A Virginia teacher and her young family is starting the new school year in survival mode after a fast-moving fire tore through their apartment building, destroying nearly everything they own just days before classes begin.

A 51-year-old Somerset man, who previously taught at Rutgers University, was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography earlier this month, authorities said.

A teacher and a teacher's aide are facing charges in Passaic County for taping a child to a desk for nearly one hour, authorities said.

A 66-year-old Newark teacher died Saturday, Oct. 26, after being struck by a vehicle at Arts High School on Wednesday, Oct. 23, authorities said.
At 10:39 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard on a call of two pedestrians struck, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
