A former Bergen County middle school teacher who was arrested for sexually assaulting one of her teenage students has been sentenced and permanently stripped of her teaching licenses, authorities confirmed.
Stephanie Carafa, 39, was arrested in 2018 while working at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Lodi, where the victim, a teenage boy between the ages of 13 and 16, was her student, according to the criminal complaint obtained by Daily Voice. Teacher Sent 'Sexually Suggestive' Messages To Minor, Police In Region Say
A high school teacher in the region is facing charges after allegedly sending sexually suggestive messages to a minor, authorities said.
Rensselaer County resident Peter Bertram, age 43, of the Village of Nassau, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 17, following an investigation by State Police.
Investigators determined that Bertram, who teaches at Averill Park High School in Rensselaer, sent “indecent and sexually suggestive” images and text messages to a child under the age of 17.
The victim is not a student at Averill Park High School.

CT School Staffers Accused Of Failing To Report Abuse
Employees of a Connecticut school have been arrested on charges of failure to report abuse by a teacher.
The incident, which included the arrest of the alleged abuser in January, took place in Litchfield County at the Plymouth Center School in Plymouth.
Sherri Turner, age 59, of Farmington, was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Melissa Morelli, age 45, of Plymouth, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Both were charged with failure to report abuse, neglect, or injury of a child or imminent risk of serious harm to a child, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
