A night of celebration turned into tragedy overnight when gunfire erupted inside a crowded New York City restaurant, leaving 11 people shot, with three of those dead.
The shooting broke out just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in Brooklyn, at Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, according to authorities.
Officers responding to frantic 911 calls found chaos inside the establishment, with victims ranging in age from 27 to 61, eight of whom were men and three women, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference.

A 19-year-old Pleasantville man was arrested and charged after he made threats while brandishing a firearm on Wednesday, Aug. 13, authorities said.
At 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man, later identified as Javont Bell-Lowe making threats at the Dollar General at 600 South New Road, Pleasantville police said.
Bell-Lowe fled the scene prior to officers arrival, police said. When officers spotted him, he fled on foot and discarded a firearm that was recovered by law enforcement, police said. Bell-Lowe was apprehended soon after, police said.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, Officer Wanda Rivera responded to Linden Street and Anderson Street for a report of a person who had punctured the tires of a vehicle during a dispute, Hackensack Police Chief Michael Antista said.

A man who fired a shotgun outside an Albany synagogue on the first night of Hanukkah in 2023 has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, 29, of Schenectady, pleaded guilty in February to a federal hate crime for the Dec. 7, 2023, incident at Temple Israel, as Daily Voice previously reported.

A 17-year-old boy was shot on a Long Island Rail Road platform in Lynbrook, and police want to know if you recognize the suspect, MTA Police announced on Monday, Aug. 11.
The shooting happened on Platform B at the LIRR Lynbrook Station at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, according to the release.
